Claim Example 1: Office catches fire, destroys equipment
An electrical outlet in your photography studio short-circuits, and sparks a fire. Your sprinkler systems are too weak to control the fire. The fire ends up destroying all your computers, camera bodies, camera lenses, SD cards, tripods, lighting equipment, and all other equipment that you have. Your studio’s renovations and fixtures & fittings are annihilated also. If you have Commercial Property Insurance, the insurer would pay to restore your photography premises to its original condition. Your policy can cover the cost of renovations, fixtures and fittings, camera equipment, and more.
Claim Example 2: Employee gets injured while on photography assignment
Physical injuries are a real risk for photographers, especially if you do any kind of outdoor shoots. You’ll spend long hours in all kind of outdoor locations. You may even have to climb onto certain places, crouch on roads, or get yourself into other awkward positions just to get that perfect angle. With such a high amount of physical activitiy, injuries are bound to happen.Â
Let’s say one of your employees was doing an outdoor shoot, when he trips and falls into a drain. He breaks his arm, and suffers a deep cut. His medical bill ups up being $8,000. He’s also placed on 4 weeks of medical leave. His monthly salary is $3,000. Let’s do a quick calculation of how much you have to compensate your employees for. Since this was a work-related injury, you’ll have to pay both his medical fees and lost salary. The total amount you’ll have to pay would be $11,000!
With WICA Insurance, these expenses are covered for you. The insurance company will pay the $6,000 for the employee’s lost wages, and also pay their medical expenses stemming from their work-related Covid infection.
Claim Example 3: You injure someone else while on a shootWhile on an outdoor photo shoot, you accidentally bump into someone while engrossed in capturing your shots. The person falls, and hits their head. They suffer a bad cut on their forehead. The injured person files a personal injury lawsuit against you. He sues you for $20,000, seeking compensation for their medical expenses and trauma caused. Public Liability Insurance would pay for your lawyer’s fees to defend you, and also pay for damages or settlements if you are found liable to the other party.
Work Injury Compensation Insurance: You should insure 100% of your employees. Under WICA regulations, MOM requires business owners to insure their manual employees. Examples of manual workers include photographers, photography assistants, prop assistants, etc. WICA regulations also requires you to insure any worker who earns $2,600/month or less.
Public Liability Insurance:Â Consider a minimum of $500,000 coverage.
Commercial Property Insurance: Consider at least $100,000 coverage.
Business Interruption Insurance: Consider at least $50,000 coverage.
Foreign Worker Medical Insurance: Singapore law requires employers to insure each foreign worker with Foreign Worker Medical Insurance. If your foreign worker is also a manual employee (e.g. a photographer), then you must purchase both Work Injury Compensation Insurance and Foreign Worker Medical Insurance.
