How much coverage do I need for my cafe?
-
Commercial Property Insurance: Most cafe owners carry between $100,000 to $200,000 coverage. Often, a higher amount may be required, depending on the total amount of renovations, furniture, and equipment, you’ve put into the premises.
-
Public Liability Insurance: Most cafe owners will benefit from $500,000 to $1 million coverage. These are the coverage amounts that landlords frequently request in commercial lease agreements.
- Work Injury Compensation Insurance: MOM requires businesses to have $45,000 medical expenses cover for every insured worker. This is legislated under the Work Injury Compensation Act (WICA).
- Business Interruption Insurance: Many cafe owners will have at least $50,000 coverage. You should calculate the amount of gross profit you would lose if you can’t operate your cafe for 3-6 months, and cover at least that amount.
-
Foreign Worker Medical Insurance: MOM requires businesses to have $15,000 cover, for every foreign worker. Foreign employees who do manual work must have both WICA Insurance, and Foreign Worker Medical Insurance.
